Someone actually did find this apparently judging by the comments. To access the CLI you normally use Telnet. Open a command prompt and type "Telnet 192.168.1.254" (if you changed the default IP... you probably don't need these instructions.) (Note: On Windows Vista you have to install Telnet client first, under Programs and Features in Control Panel). Enter your username and password. (For unbranded routers the default username is Administrator, case sensitive, with a blank password. Things may be different if your router is ISP branded.) Finally run these commands:
:wireless qos config mode=disabled
:saveall

I will add though that this only applies to those particular routers. There can be other sources of the error of course.

My comments only reflect the router models I mentioned. It could be DHCP problems for you, hidden in the phone settings is some place to manually enter IP settings and there are also some wi-fi options, such as to turn off wi-fi power save. If you can't find them have a look in the manual.
Thanks, this solves No gateway reply problem for my Nokia N79 too, with Thomson ST780WL, and firmware 7.4.4.7
To be clear, 7.4.4.7 is the ST780WL firmware, and Nokia SW version is 11.049 (the latest available for both the Nokia N79, and the SpeedTouch). I think that older versions probably have the same problem.

Looks lika a fix, how do i do when i use PuTTY to connect? the window appears but after a few second the window closes, all i get is "connection closed by remote host"

@Roofy-o: PuTTY seems to work here. Make sure it is in Telnet mode, otherwise maybe your router is locked down by your ISP or something.
@jeevak: That's a different router. This is about Thomson routers only.

I just got the new Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, only to find out that this bug also seams to bite me. At home I have a Thomson router which is locked down by my ISP. No way to disable WMM. The maddening thing is my ISP is the same company is my phone company (KPN in The Netherlands) ..... Nokia should provide a fix for this.

I have a thomson st780. Unfortunaltely i get the message that i can not connect to the hos computer on port 23 when i try to access it with "open 192.168.1.254". (If i use "Telnet 192.168.1.254 i get unknown command.)

hi, i have the n85. i was able to connect to my wireless internet but then all of a sudden it diplayed the 'no gateway reply' message. i am clueless when it comes to technical stuff on a pc.
im not sure what make or version my wireless router is but undr network connections on my coputer it says 'Broadcom 802.11a/b/g WLAN'

I am far from a hacker and also looked at romanotr's step by step (http://discussions.europe.nokia.com/discussions/board/message?board.id=connectivity&message.id=23220&query.id=207437#M23220) and made it work!
His link to download the "telnet" was broken for me, so I googled "download telnet" and found ZOC6 anyway.
Strange that there is no WMM tick-box in the Thompson web interface (Home > Home Network > Interfaces > WLAN: x). The HElP link on the same page mention it should be under the "multicast" tick-box.
Really hope Nokia fixes this.
A good tip I found was to choose the profile Offline so that the WLAN is not overridden to use the expensive 3G instead.
Anonymous: I thought I remembered there being a WMM checkbox in the web interface on older fimware versions, maybe they removed it at some point.
I think I read somewhere that Thomson fixed this in later 8.2.x firmware versions, but I haven't verified that.

Same here. I have a Nokia E71 and have been trying to connect to my BT Home Hub, which used to work perfectly, but recently started giving me a headache with the 'no gateway reply' error message popping up. Help me please!!
I want to test this, but when I enter the password for logging in on my router with PuTTY, it just dies. It goes away. I've used it before for other things without problems, now it just dies :/ Any clues? I got the Thomson ST780.
Like so very often, I figure it out after I ask someone :P I didn't need to use a password, just the username to log in via telnet.
It worked, and now I have my 5800 online via WLAN :) Thank you for the help!

Thank you veeeery much! Just got my e71 wlan working with this crappy thomson :) I couldnt get in with telnet using putty, so I had to enable telnet in w7. After that it worked how it was supposed to work.

I had the same problem with Netgear WG102 access points and Nokia E75.

In Telnet, after i've typed in my routers username and password, i then type in the command :wireless qos config mode=disabled
It comes back with unknown command

Try typing "menu" instead so you can see what the available commands are.

you need to go into the wireless menu, not ipqos.

there would be a qos option there, it doesn't appear to be there for some reason.
you could backup the config (user.ini) using the web interface and check if it is there.
otherwise try flashing a generic firmware build or another firmware version.

I do not have a custom password so I typed "Administrator" and nothing at the password...just ENTER.
it tells me that the user-name or password is incorrect.

If you typed Administrator with a capital A, then it sounds like you haven't got the right details.
Do you have access to backup the configuration file (user.ini) from the web-interface?
