Update
Someone actually did find this apparently judging by the comments. To access the CLI you normally use Telnet. Open a command prompt and type "Telnet 192.168.1.254" (if you changed the default IP... you probably don't need these instructions.) (Note: On Windows Vista you have to install Telnet client first, under Programs and Features in Control Panel). Enter your username and password. (For unbranded routers the default username is Administrator, case sensitive, with a blank password. Things may be different if your router is ISP branded.) Finally run these commands:
:wireless qos config mode=disabled
:saveall
How do I do what you said?? What is wmm and cli??
ReplyDeleteyour "hours of pain" have just solved my "2 months problem"
ReplyDeletethank you for posting this!!
You are welcome :) It was some days of pain really, I just got fed up and sat down for a few hours to try and solve it.
ReplyDeleteI will add though that this only applies to those particular routers. There can be other sources of the error of course.
thanks for the tip. do you have specific advice for Nokia 6301b? i'm trying to get into internet through the WIFI from my belkin 54G wireless router (runs on both g and b) but i get 'no gateway reply"
ReplyDeletethanks
candy
My comments only reflect the router models I mentioned. It could be DHCP problems for you, hidden in the phone settings is some place to manually enter IP settings and there are also some wi-fi options, such as to turn off wi-fi power save. If you can't find them have a look in the manual.
ReplyDeleteThanks, this solves No gateway reply problem for my Nokia N79 too, with Thomson ST780WL, and firmware 7.4.4.7
ReplyDeleteTo be clear, 7.4.4.7 is the ST780WL firmware, and Nokia SW version is 11.049 (the latest available for both the Nokia N79, and the SpeedTouch). I think that older versions probably have the same problem.
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU!!
ReplyDeleteIt's been over 2 months since I've come across this problem!
Now it's fixed! Thanks to You!
You are all welcome ;) But good luck trying to get someone at Thomson or Nokia to fix the actual problem... :P
ReplyDeleteYou made my day! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the fix, worked for my Nokia 5800 + Speedtouch 585v6 firmware 7.4.3.2.
Looks lika a fix, how do i do when i use PuTTY to connect? the window appears but after a few second the window closes, all i get is "connection closed by remote host"
ReplyDeleteWhat am i doing wrong?
i've tried to configure my MT882 Huwaie withur instructions. everytime i type the command it says "syntax error"...any ideas??
ReplyDeleteMan, you are the bomb. Out of 5 billion people you're the only one that figured this out. I'm impressed and most thankful. Keep up the hacking
ReplyDeleteThis fixed the same problem with my Nokia 5800 Express Music. Thank you so much!
ReplyDeleteI may have created the most popular post of my blog :o
ReplyDelete@Roofy-o: PuTTY seems to work here. Make sure it is in Telnet mode, otherwise maybe your router is locked down by your ISP or something.
@jeevak: That's a different router. This is about Thomson routers only.
@Others: You are welcome ;)
i've tried several telnet clients. but when i use the windows command prompt i get the message that it couldn't connect. any ideas?
ReplyDeleteyou are god. diddi sweden
ReplyDeletethanks
ReplyDeleteit worked
you made my live easy
My nokia 5800 has the same problem with many public wi-fi routers.
ReplyDeleteCould you please find a solution from the phone settings because its not always possible to change the router settings?
Thank you, that tip helped me to use my new 5800 on my thomson tg787 router. After searching the Web for a week your simple trick was like magic. Thanks!!! :)
ReplyDeleteI just got the new Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, only to find out that this bug also seams to bite me. At home I have a Thomson router which is locked down by my ISP. No way to disable WMM. The maddening thing is my ISP is the same company is my phone company (KPN in The Netherlands) ..... Nokia should provide a fix for this.
ReplyDeleteYou are great it worked perfectly!
ReplyDeleteYou made me save a lot of time for another "unexpected" problem.
Great! It works. I Had the same problem.. and now solved. Thank u for simple and eficient solution !
ReplyDeleteThanks man,worked like a charm! :D

ReplyDeleteI have a thomson st780. Unfortunaltely i get the message that i can not connect to the hos computer on port 23 when i try to access it with "open 192.168.1.254". (If i use "Telnet 192.168.1.254 i get unknown command.)

ReplyDeleteim not sure what make or version my wireless router is but undr network connections on my coputer it says 'Broadcom 802.11a/b/g WLAN'
any help would be extremely appreciated
thanks nick
You are a star!
ReplyDeleteI am far from a hacker and also looked at romanotr's step by step (http://discussions.europe.nokia.com/discussions/board/message?board.id=connectivity&message.id=23220&query.id=207437#M23220) and made it work!
His link to download the "telnet" was broken for me, so I googled "download telnet" and found ZOC6 anyway.
Strange that there is no WMM tick-box in the Thompson web interface (Home > Home Network > Interfaces > WLAN: x). The HElP link on the same page mention it should be under the "multicast" tick-box.
Really hope Nokia fixes this.
A good tip I found was to choose the profile Offline so that the WLAN is not overridden to use the expensive 3G instead.
Anonymous: I thought I remembered there being a WMM checkbox in the web interface on older fimware versions, maybe they removed it at some point.
ReplyDeleteI think I read somewhere that Thomson fixed this in later 8.2.x firmware versions, but I haven't verified that.
You are great
ReplyDeleteThis really solved my problem
I was about to sell the E75 I just bought :-)
I LOVE YOU
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot!
ReplyDeleteHi!
ReplyDeleteIs there a way to avoid this error for public Wi-fi? (Since you can't change router settings)
You just saved me from throwing my 5800 out of the window =p Joking :) Couldnt update the firmware and i thought the wireless module was broken. Thnaks for this info :)
ReplyDeleteFINALLY, my problem is fixed..
ReplyDeletei have a thomson speedtouch st585 v6 firmware 7.4.3.2, and followed those steps, and its fixed..
THANK YOU SO MUCH..
What i've done:
CMD>Telnet 192.168.1.254
Adminstrator: Administrator
Password:
:wireless qos config mode=disabled
:saveall
Exit.. Then RESTART MODEM.. And voilaa..
THANK YOU ALL.

ReplyDeleteSame here. I have a Nokia E71 and have been trying to connect to my BT Home Hub, which used to work perfectly, but recently started giving me a headache with the 'no gateway reply' error message popping up. Help me please!!
ReplyDeleteI want to test this, but when I enter the password for logging in on my router with PuTTY, it just dies. It goes away. I've used it before for other things without problems, now it just dies :/ Any clues? I got the Thomson ST780.
ReplyDeleteLike so very often, I figure it out after I ask someone :P I didn't need to use a password, just the username to log in via telnet.
ReplyDeleteIt worked, and now I have my 5800 online via WLAN :) Thank you for the help!
Thanks a lot you solved my problem i have a n e71 and live in Mexico. c ya

(gisgeo)
Computer - windows XP
ReplyDeleteRouter - Thomson TG585v7 (firmware 7.4.4.7)
Mobile - Nokia 5800 Xpress Music latest (firmware 31.0.101)
In Telnet, after i've typed in my routers username and password, i then type in the command :wireless qos config mode=disabled
It comes back with unknown command
Can anyone help me?
Try typing "menu" instead so you can see what the available commands are.
ReplyDeleteThese are the options i get, when i type in menu > http://img267.imageshack.us/i/menuhq.png/
ReplyDeleteThen i go to "ipqos", bringing up the following options > http://img257.imageshack.us/i/ipqos.png/
When i try to enter "disable" next to "state" the following command appears > http://img267.imageshack.us/i/ipqos1.png/
Please help
you need to go into the wireless menu, not ipqos.
ReplyDeleteWhen i go into "wireless" i get the following options > http://img20.imageshack.us/i/wireless.png/
ReplyDeleteDo i need to go into "wireless ifconfig" > http://img20.imageshack.us/i/wirelessifconfig.png/
If so, what do i change all the settings to?
there would be a qos option there, it doesn't appear to be there for some reason.
ReplyDeleteyou could backup the config (user.ini) using the web interface and check if it is there.
otherwise try flashing a generic firmware build or another firmware version.
You rule :D
ReplyDeleteThank you so much!
ReplyDeleteHi people.
ReplyDeleteI`ve got:
Thomson ST585 v6
Nokia n97
Windows 7
I installed the telnet client and I typed "telnet 192.168.1.254"
I do not have a custom password so I typed "Administrator" and nothing at the password...just ENTER.
it tells me that the user-name or password is incorrect.
Where am i wrong? thanks!
If you typed Administrator with a capital A, then it sounds like you haven't got the right details.
ReplyDeleteDo you have access to backup the configuration file (user.ini) from the web-interface?
thank you very much for the clue . Then I actually tried and fixed my tube firmware update issue using D link router
ReplyDelete.you derserve a gand feast
Great I have been suffering for quite sometime and your information were very usefull.
ReplyDeleteThank you
Luis
My E71 is now working well. Many thanks.
ReplyDeleteHarris
It worked!!!!! I have an MSc in Software Engineering and I could not get my f***** Nokia E71 to connect to my f****** Thomson TG787 router... this was the solution!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! A whole night of messing about finally solved!
But seriously Nokia - every other device worked without this, including your own N810 (OK, Maemo is a totally different software stack, I appreciate this). Get your network stack working on Symbian you idiots...
Thanks a lot!!!
ReplyDeleteThis solved my connection problem between a Nokia N79 and a Speed Touch ST585 (firmware release 7.4.3.2)
WoW.. can't believe it works fantastically.. thanx man..
ReplyDeleteare you god?
ReplyDeleteThank you, my Nokia e71 is now working with my Thompson router.
ReplyDeleteThank you. I've been trying different combinations of settings on my router and E71 for weeks but your solution worked like magic.
ReplyDeleteand what about if i want to enable the qos on the modem?
ReplyDelete
